GlobeDoc Research Hub is a non-profit research hub developing GPOC, the Global Patient co-Owned Cloud: a free, patient-owned health record that follows each person across borders and over a lifetime. The hub brings together leading researchers in AI, ethics, law, clinical medicine and global health. Researchers, clinicians and students contribute through eight research groups and two operations teams:

  • AI in Healthcare — Artificial intelligence across the patient journey – including agents with lifelong memory that follow the patient across care settings and countries.
  • Technology & Security — Platform development, machine learning and privacy-preserving technologies such as distributed ledgers and homomorphic encryption.
  • Interoperability & Health Data Standards — Making records readable everywhere – HL7 FHIR, the International Patient Summary, ICD-11 and SNOMED CT.
  • Ethics, Law & Governance — Data protection, legal frameworks, contracts and the ethics of patient co-owned data.
  • Patients & Clinical Practice — Patient representatives and clinicians ensuring that GPOC meets real needs in care.
  • Population Health & Epidemiology — Using patient-owned data, with consent, for research, surveillance and public health across populations.
  • Global Health & Implementation — Adapting GPOC for low-resource, humanitarian and cross-border settings, including refugees and displaced populations.
  • Precision Medicine & Biomedical AI — AI applied to biological and clinical data – microbiome, omics, genetics and biomarkers – for more precise prevention, diagnosis and treatment.

Operations

  • Partnerships & Funding — Research collaborations, grants and philanthropic support.
  • Communications & Outreach — Scientific communication, outreach and coordination of contributors.

Research groups are curated. All applications are reviewed, and we will contact those whose profile matches current needs. Each research group will be coordinated by a Convenor, who reviews applications together with the Research Director.

Student projects

We welcome MSc and PhD students, as well as developers in training, who are interested in a thesis, project or internship connected to the GPOC programme. Topics span technology and security, ethics and law, clinical practice and global health. Apply through the form on this page and tell us about your interests – we will explore whether a suitable project and supervision arrangement can be found.
